Police: Militants arrested in Comilla had bigger plans

Update : 08 Mar 2017, 07:32 PM
The two JMB militants who hurled bombs at a highway police patrol during a vehicle search in Comilla are specially trained and had plans to launch big attacks. “The two militants were heading to Dhaka from Chittagong on a Shyamoli Paribahan bus on Tuesday. When the Highway Police stopped the bus for regular checkup at Comilla’s Chandina, the militants tried to escape by hurling bombs at the police officers.” The SP said that Jashim, one of the militants, was under treatment at Comilla Medical College Hospital while his associate Hasan had been taken on a drive to provide police with information and the locations of militant hideouts. “Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit and Chittagong district police in a nightlong drive with one of the arrested militants aboard, recovered a large amount of hand grenades, firearms and ammunition from a militant hideout located in Chittagong’s Mirsharai area,” Abid said. Hasan is a native of Khagrachari’s Naikkhyangchari while Jashim’s hometown is yet to be confirmed by police. From the Mirsharai hideout, CTTC and police recovered 29 grenades, 280 packets of splinters, 40 packets of explosive gel, machetes, 11kg bomb making materials and black attires, according to Chittagong police’s Superintendent Noor E Alam Mina. “Improvised grenades found at the Mirsarai hideout are similar to those used in the Dhaka cafe attack,” Counter-terrorism unit’s ADC Abdul Mannan told the Dhaka Tribune.
