A man from Habiganj has been shot to death by terrorists in South Africa.
The deceased is Nazrul Islam, 35, son of Abdul Awwal Miah from Rasulpur village in Azmiriganj upazila.
The incident occurred in Johannesburg of South Africa on Saturday morning.
A pall of gloom and grief descended on his family after the news of his death was given to them by one of his assistants.
According to locals, Nazrul Islam went to South Africa to seek a livelihood almost three years back. There, he worked at a wholesale in a supermarket in Johannesburg, when a gang of terrorists entered the market and started shooting, leaving Nazrul dead on the spot.
Azmiriganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Nazmul Haque told the Dhaka Tribune: “When we were informed of the news through the deceased’s family, we went to his house to seek more information.”
He said they were speaking to senior officials of the police on the issue.
