Britannia University trustees sued for corruption

ACC Deputy Director Nurul Huda lodged the case with sadar south police station accusing them of embezzling the amount from the university’s account. As per the law, no one can transfer money from the account of a university, operated under a trust, to his/her personal account or spend for personal purposes. The accused are Trustee Board Chairman Syed Ehsanul Huq, Treasurer Siddiqur Rahman, and members Md Shamsuddoha, Saiful Ahmed Chowdhury, Syeda Rownak Afza, Abu Zafar Md Moinul Islam and Rizwan Ahmed. The ACC launched the investigation upon getting allegations against the Trustee Board members, ad later found that Siddiqur Rahman had pocketed Tk1.52 crore through 14 cheques while Rownak embezzled Tk40 lakh. The private university was established in Poduar Bazar area of the town in 2012. The University Grants Commission warned the university in a circular last year for irregularities in the admission process.
