Licensed arms dealer caught selling illegal weapons

He was supplying these to robbers in the Sundarbans

A licensed firearms dealer who was caught with illegal firearms last week has admitted he was supplying these to robbers in the Sundarbans.

Mohammad Ali Babul, 57, was arrested on June 11 by police with unlicenced weapons on his person.

Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police found him with two firearms and 125 rounds of ammunition at Mohakhali Bus Station in Dhaka.

Based on information he divulged, police later recovered a stash of illegal arms include one rifle of .22 bore, four single shots rifles (SBBL Gun), two pistols of .22 bore, one pistol of 7.65 bore and two revolvers of .32 bore.

Additionally, the stock contained 1,060 rounds of ammunition.

Additional Police Commissioner of DMP Md Monirul Islam informed the media in this regard while holding a press briefing on Friday.

On May 15 and June 3, police detained Dr Md Zahidul Alam Kadir and his wife Masuma Akhter with illegal firearms in the capital’s Jatrabari and Gabtoli areas respectively.

“Based on their information, we found the owner of M/S Netrokona Arms Co Mohamamd Ali Babul and his illegal stock,” CTTC chief Monirul added.

According to CTTC, Babul admitted in primary investigation that the illegal stock is supposed to go the forest robbers in Sundarbans.
