A team of Special Action Group members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested a doctor cum arms dealer named Md Jahidul Alam Kadir and later his wife and associate Masuma Akhter.
Police recovered 15 different types of firearms and 1,622 rounds of ammunition from their possession. ad and Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam confirmed the matter at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Thursday.
“Jahidul was arrested from the Jatrabari area with two pistols and eight bullets on May 15. After interrogating him in remand, we found out about his wife's involvement. We followed and finally arrested her from the Gabtoli area with a foreign pistol and four rounds bullets on June 3.
"On interrogating Masuma, it was discovered that Jahidul had more weapons. We recovered 12 different types of firearms and 1610 rounds of varying ammunition from his house in Mymensingh’s Baghmara. The weapons and bullets were hidden in a specially built steel cabinet in his house,” he added.

Monirul further said Jahidul did not have any government or permanent employment after passing his MBBS exam from the Mymensingh Medical College in 2002. He worked at different hospitals and clinics of the village.
“He acquired unlawfully licensed foreign weapons from a variety of sources under the guise of his medical profession, and sold them at a higher price. He is specially skilled in the construction and repair of various types of firearms,” he added.
The CTTC chief also said: “He is also very skilled at modifying the size and shape to increase the performance of firearms.
“Before his arrest last month, Jahidul was about to become a professional killer. He was in communication with terrorist and professional killers from different parts of the country.”
Monirul further added that Jahidul collected some weapons from legitimate arms vendors, and police are investigating into the matter. The legal arms dealers who sold them illegally have also been brought under the law.
