Suspected robber killed in Cumilla ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber has been killed in a “gunfight” with police at Saliakandi village under Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla district. Al Amin, a 35 year-old robber accused in nine cases, died in the incident around 1:30am on Sunday. Confirming the matter, Muradnagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Manzur Alam said: “Acting on a tip-off, a team of police led by Additional Superintendent of Police (North) Shakawat Hossain, conducted a drive in the area to arrest the robbers. “Sensing our presence, the robbers opened fire at us.” In retaliation, police fired back, leaving Al Amin injured. He said: “Al Amin was declared dead when taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital. Five policemen were injured during the incident.” Meanwhile, police also recovered a pipe gun, five masks, and some lethal weapons from the crime scene. The OC said: “Nine cases were filed against Al Amin with different police stations.”
