The rare turtles recovered during a RAB raid in Old Dhaka's Shakhari Bazar area on Friday, February 23, 2018, will released in the Bhawal National Park | Focus BanglaDuring the raid, the law enforcement officials also recovered a number of turtles meant for selling. There is a ban on selling and buying such rare turtles in Bangladesh.
The detainees were identified as Dipak Nandi, Ponir Chandra Das and Moyna Rani.
Of them, Ponir was arrested earlier and jailed for six months for committing the same crime, said Wildlife Crime Control Unit Inspector Asim Kumar Mallick. “Ponir had secured bail and came out after serving four months in jail.”Also Read- Night raid rescues 494 turtles from being smuggled to India
“The turtles recovered from them are of an endangered species. They will be released in the Bhawal National Park,” said Asim.
