Police say 12-year-old Redwanul Islam Bivor was murdered because of land disputes, according to the confession made by Al-Amin, the perpetrator of the crime. Bivor was stabbed to death by Al-Amin near his house in Jatrabari when he was playing with his cousin on January, 30. Jatrabari police station Sub-Inspector (SI) KM Azizul Haque said Al-Amin who gave the statement before a Dhaka court under Section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code said he stabbed the boy because his father Abdul Mannan Munshi had land disputes with Bivor’s father Nazrul Islam Babu for a long time. Police also took his younger brother Armin on a two-day remand for more information. On January 30, when Bivor, a sixth grader of Narinda Government School, was playing with his cousin Rafid in front of his house in the Golapbagh area in Jatrabari when Al-Amin enraged jumped in on Bivor and stabbed him to death. Bivor was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. Police arrested Al-Amin a short time after and said his father had sent him on an inter-district bus so that he could runaway and hide. “However, Abdul Mannan, could not be arrested yet,” said the SI adding that the police were actively looking for him and conducting drives to find him. Bivor’s father Nazrul Islam said: “They killed by son for something as trivial as land dispute which could have been solved in a peaceful way. I want exemplary punishment for these barbarians.”
