Two underage girls have been raped in separate incidents in Bakshiganj and Sadar upazilas of Jamalpur, sources have said.
In Bakshiganj upazila, a fifth-grader was allegedly abducted, tortured and raped by a neighbour in Purbo Mesherchar village during the early hours on Sunday.
The child was admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital in critical condition.
According to her family members, the girl was picked up by her neighbour, named Akash, when she stepped out of the house to go to bathroom.
Akash tied up the girl to a bamboo stamp, stabbed her with a blade, gagged her by stuffing soil in her mouth, and raped her in the end.
After a frantic search, the family members found the girl tied to the bamboo stump and took her to the hospital.
Bakshiganj police station OC Aslam Hossain said they had already detained the rapist based on the verbal allegation.
In Jamalpur Sadar upazila, an SSC candidate has been raped allegedly by a group of men led by a Jubo League leader in Kendua village.
A case was filed in this regard with Jamalpur Sadar police station, sources said.
According to the case, the survivor, along with her mother, had gone to Kendua village to attend a religious program on Friday night.
Around 11pm, the girl stepped out of the venue to buy some rice cake, when a group of miscreants picked her up.
The girl remained missing until 3:30am on Saturday. A local youth escorted her to her home in critical condition, where she burst out in tears and told her family about the rape.
The case accuses Sabbir Hossain Akand, president of Ward 3 unit of Jubo League in Kendua union, Rifat, 22, Md Babu, 24, Md Minhaz, 23, and Md Shakil, 24, of raping the girl.
A few unidentified people have also been named accused in the case
