A man, who was being mugged at the capital’s Gulistan area, prevented the attempt by kicking one of the criminals who tried to flee the scene.
The victim kicked one of three muggers who fell down, and retrieved the bag that allegedly contained Tk42 lakh.
Later, locals intervened, and held the hijacker down until police came to the spot, while his accomplices escaped.
Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Hasan confirmed the matter saying that the mugger was detained and his motorcycle was confiscated.
Abul Hasan added that two businessmen, who were on a rickshaw en route to Paltan from Islampur, were carrying the bag of money when three muggers on motorcycles blocked their way, and snatched the bag.
He added: “One of the victims kicked the mugger who had the bag, and was on the move. The mugger fell on the ground with the bag. Locals quickly gathered around the criminal, and held him down until the police arrived.”
