Japanese held with 11 gold bars at Dhaka airport

The preventive team of Dhaka Customs House has recovered 11kg gold from a Japanese citizen at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. A total of 11 gold bars, each weighing 1kg, have been seized from Kengo Shibata who arrived in Dhaka on a Regent Airways flight from Singapore around 12:40am Saturday. Assistant Commissioner (AC) of the preventive team Ehsanul Kabir confirmed the matter. According to Ehsanul, acting on a tip-off, they identified and detained Kengo while he was crossing the green channel. "During the primary interrogation, he [Kengo] refused that he was carrying the gold bars," the AC said. Later, the officials found 11 gold bars after scanning his body. "The estimated price of the gold is Tk5.5 crore," Ehsanul added.
