CID to seek time for Diaz 'murder' probe

Update : 30 Jul 2017, 08:21 PM
Currently, Assistant Superintendent of Police of the Criminal Investigation Department Wahidur Rahman was investigating the case, said sources at police. Confirming the matter, Additional Special Superintendent of Police (Chittagong division and Forensic lab), told the Dhaka Tribune that the current IO of the case had been changed, as he posted in Rangpur, CID while Senior ASP Humayun Kabir Sarkar would be replaced by him. “It (posting) is a regular process and ASP Wahidur was posted there two back, but he could not joint his new work station due to some formalities”, he said, adding that as the newly-appointed investigation officer was skilled and smart enough, there would be no problem during the probe and hopefully he would finish his job with utmost sincerity. In reply to a question over the submission of probe report in fixed time frame before the court, he said: “We will seek more time from court, as deposition of many witnesses of the incident are yet to be recorded and the second post mortem report, a vital evidence for the case, is yet to be published by the doctors.” The former joint secretary of CU BCL unit Diaz was found dead in his flat located near CU Gate No:2 area under Hathazari police station on November 20, creating mystery over the unnatural death. After the incident, family and fellow BCL men claimed that it was a preplanned murder by his rivals while the first post-mortem report, which published on November 23, stated that Diaz had committed suicide by hanging himself. Rejecting the autopsy report, Diaz’s mother Jaheda Amin Chowdhury, an employee of the of CU, filed a murder case the following day with a court in Chittagong against 10 persons, including a former assistant proctor of CU and current president of BCL CU unit president in connection with the mysterious death of Diaz on November 24, 2016. After filing of the case, the court ordered the CID to investigate the incident and asked to submit its report by 30 days while the court also asked a three-member team of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH)’s forensic department to conduct the second autopsy. Later, the body of Diaz exhumed for the second autopsy report on December 10, 2016. Three doctors led by Dr Sohel Mahmud had conducted the second autopsy of BCL leader Diaz in the DMCH morgue on December 11.
