Hindu priest hacked to death in Jhenaidah

A Hindu priest has been hacked to death by unidentified assailants at Sagra village in Jhenaidah. The deceased is Shymanondo Das. He was a priest of Shri Shri Radhamodon Gopal Moth. He is the second priest to be killed in the district in a month. Jhenaidah OC Hasan Hazijur Rahman said: “Shymanondo was collecting flowers for religious rituals when three assailants riding on a motorcycle attacked him with a machete around 6:30am on Friday. “They hacked him and fled the scene.” Locals took him to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Another Hindu priest Gupal Ganguli, 64, was killed in Jhenaidah on June 7. His body was recovered near Mohishadanga Beel under Sadar upazila. Attacks on minorities have been on the rise in Bangladesh. In January and March two homeopaths were killed in similar attacks in the district.
