Murdered Comilla Victoria Government College student Sohagi Jahan Tonu’s elder brother says their family is under pressure.
“Please understand that we cannot talk about many things. You should grasp the meaning from hint,” Najmul Hossain told the Bangla Tribune over phone yesterday.
Asked about the investigation, he said his family did not know anything. “We are not even being informed. We spoke to you [the media] when we went to our village home in Muradpur after Tonu’s death. It is not possible to do so [interact with the media] any more,” he added.
He explained: “We have been brought to our cantonment residence and are not being allowed outside. I could not go out today [Monday] but hope to venture out tomorrow.”
Najmul said he believed the phone conversation was being recorded. “I will talk about many things once we meet face-to-face.”
He said he would leave the place if restriction continued.
Asked if his father Yaar Ali, who works at the cantonment, was being allowed outside, Najmul said: “I do not think so. He works here and has to abide by rules.”
Tonu’s body was recovered on March 20 inside the cantonment.
Najmul said RAB interrogated his mother for five hours. “They took her in saying they had arrested a suspect.”
Replying to a question, he said members of the Police Bureau of Investigation had visited the site yesterday.
No one was identified or arrested until yesterday over the incident.
