Investigators checking Tavella’s professional, personal life

Update : 02 Oct 2015, 08:31 PM

Italian NGO official Cesare Tavella had called his family and colleagues before being killed on Monday, investigators said yesterday checking his call records.

Although Tavella dialled the numbers, he could not be able to connect anyone, a high official involved with the investigation said yesterday asking not to be named.

The DB officials probing the case said that they were taking technological support to cross check Tavella’s call data.

They are also holding meetings with Tavella’s colleagues, friends and questioning the eyewitnesses to get a clue, but could not make any breakthrough until last night.

A high official of police’s Detective Branch told the Dhaka Tribune that they were now focusing more on Tavella’s personal and professional life other than militancy and third-party involvement to embarrass the government.

“We are trying to get information on whether Tavella had any conflict with anyone or not,” the official said requesting not to be named.

On Monday evening, three unidentified assailants shot Tavella at Gulshan while he was returning to home after finishing his regular work. He later died at a hospital.

Since the murder took place, the DB and police’s Rapid Action Battalion have been investigating the case with high priority since it coincided with the security alerts by some countries for their citizens living in Bangladesh.

When contacted, Additional Deputy Commissioner of DB police Mahfuzul Islam said: “We are yet to find any clue that can be disclosed to media.”
