Quoting locals, police said Selimuzzaman, who was a soldier at Kholahati cantonment, Parbotipur, Dinajpur, got locked in an altercation with his wife Mitali Begum over family feud on Monday night.
Maksuda Begum, sister of the victim, said Selim beat up Mitali with a stick, leaving her critically injured on Tuesday morning over the issue.
At one stage, Mitali took shelter in a bathroom in a bid to save herself.
Selim then entered into the bathroom and hit Mitali's head with the tube-well, making her senseless.
Later, he hanged her with the ceiling and told neighbours that she tried to commit suicide.
Locals rescued her and sent to Rangpur CMH Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Afterward, Selim sent the body to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared her dead also.
Locals and family members of Mitali demanded exemplary punishment of Selim.
On the other hand, Rafiqul Islam Bappi, a trader in Alamnagar area in the town, beat up his wife Sufia Begum leaving her to death.
Jahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, said Selim and Rafiqul were arrested for their wives.
