A schoolgirl was killed and her mother and sister were injured by lightning in village Gomostapara under Boda upazila of Panchagarh district yesterday.
Deceased Tanya Akhter, 15, was daughter of Salekul Islam of the village and a student of class ten of nearby Chandanbari High School.
Police said the tragic incident occurred when thunderbolt stuck kitchen at their house while Tanya, her sister Sabina Yasmin, 30, and mother Lailey Begum, 50, were engaged in cooking lunch there amid inclement weather.
All of them were injured in the incident and taken to Boda Upazila Health Complex where attending Medical Officer Dr M R Reza declared Tanya dead. Tanya’s mother Lailey Begum and her sister Sabina Yasmin were undergoing treatment at the Health Complex.
Boda police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam Azad and Chairman of local Chandanbari Union Parishad Moazzem Hossain confirmed the incident.
