A Sylhet court has sentenced three people to death in a case filed over the murder of four children at Sundratiki village in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj district.
Sylhet Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Mokbul Ahsan gave the verdict Wednesday morning.
The death row convicts are Rubel Mia, Arzu Mia and Ostar Mia.
The court sentenced two others—Jewel Mia and Shahed-- to seven years imprisonment.
It also acquitted Abdul Ali Baqar and Babul Mia Billal from the charge.

On February 12, 2016, Monir, 7, Zakaria Shuvo, 8, son of Abdul Wahid Miah; Mohammad Tajel Mia, 10, son of Abdul Aziz; and Ismail Miah, 10, son of Abdul Kader, went missing after they went to a nearby playground in the afternoon at Sundrateki village in Bahubal upazila of the district.
Five days later their bodies were found under sand at a place adjacent to the village.
Afzal filed a case with Bahubal police station on February 18.
Officer-in-Charge Moktadir Alam of Detective Branch of Police pressed charges against nine people in the case on April 5.
Another accused Bachchu Mia was killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) soon after the incident.
