Update : 10 Sep 2026, 07:09 PM

Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the Sanatani Jagaran Jote, was granted five-hour parole on Thursday following the death of his mother.

Chittagong Additional District Magistrate Syed Mahbubul Haque issued the order in the afternoon. Chinmoy was released from Chittagong Central Jail at 4pm.

Earlier, his brother Anjan Kumar Dhar applied to Chittagong Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia seeking parole for Chinmoy to attend his mother’s cremation ceremony.

Chinnoy’s mother, Sandhya Rani Dhar, 72, died at Pundarik Dham in Hathazari on Thursday morning. She was a resident of Sadar Union in Satkania upazila.

“Following the family’s application, we took the necessary steps. His parole has been approved for five hours,” the deputy commissioner said.

Chittagong Central Jail Senior Superintendent Iqbal Hossain said Chinnoy was released at 4pm after the jail authorities received the approval documents.

Chinnoy is the youngest of three brothers and a sister. His family had sought his parole on Wednesday so he could see his seriously ill mother.

Sandhya Rani had been undergoing treatment at Chittagong Ma-O-Shishu Hospital, where she was diagnosed with cancer. She was taken to Pundarik Dham on Wednesday night and died there the following morning.

On October 31, 2024, Firoz Khan, the then general secretary of the BNP’s Chandgaon-Mohra ward unit in Chittagong, filed a sedition case with Kotwali police against Chinnoy and 18 others over alleged disrespect to the national flag. Firoz was later expelled from the BNP.

Chinnoy was arrested in Dhaka on November 25 in the case.

The following day, clashes broke out over his bail hearing, during which lawyer Saiful Islam was beaten and hacked to death. Saiful’s father, Jamal Uddin, later filed a murder case naming 31 people.
