Hasnat to seek parole to pay respect to father

Update : 01 Nov 2016, 07:45 PM
Hasnat Reza Karim, who has been in jail for suspected involvement in Dhaka attack on July 1, will seek release on parole to attend his father’s funeral ceremony. Hasnat's wife Sharmin Karim told the Dhaka Tribune that they have formally submitted written appeal to the Home Ministry on Tuesday to ease his release on parole so that he can pay his last respects to his father. “The decision on burial of my father-in-law depends on Hasnat’s release on parole,” she said. Hasnat's father Rezaul Karim died on Monday while undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital in Dhaka. The former North South University teacher Hasnat, who is now in Gazipur's Kashimpur jail, was formally arrested on August 3 this year in connection with the July 1 militant attack on a Gulshan eatery, the worst in Bangladesh’s history, that killed 24 people including 17 foreigners. Hasnat filed a bail petition on last Sunday but the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court rejected his plea.
