A Dhaka court has postponed the submission of the investigation report in the murder case of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) student Tarikuzzaman Sunny to October 6, marking the 43rd delay in submitting the report.

The report was scheduled to be submitted on Sunday. However, the investigation officer, SI Mashiur Rahman of Qutubpur Naval Police Outpost, failed to submit it. Following a petition seeking more time, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Dhaka Mahbubur Rahman set October 6 as the new date.

SI of the Prosecution Department Mazharul Islam confirmed the matter.

On the afternoon of July 14, 2022, Tarikuzzaman Sunny, a fifth-year student of the Department of Architecture at Buet, went missing while visiting Moinat Ghat in Dohar with 15 friends.

Sunny, son of Harun Or Rashid, was a resident of Hazaribagh in Dhaka.

After he went missing, a diving team from the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters conducted a search. Despite extensive efforts that night, he could not be found. His body was recovered from Moinat Ghat at around 11:26am on July 15.

Sunny’s elder brother Hasanuzzaman filed a murder case that afternoon, accusing the 15 friends who had been with him at the ghat.

The accused were arrested after the case was filed and are currently out on bail.

They are Shariful Hossain, Shakil Ahmed, Sejan Ahmed, Rubel, Sajeeb, Nurzaman, Nasir, Maruf, Ashraful Alam, Jahangir Hossain Liton, Noman, Zahid, ATM Shahriar Momin, Maruful Haque Maruf and Roknuzzaman alias Jitu.
