Death row convict in the Abu Sayed killing case, former assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Amir Hossain, shouted that he was a police officer who followed instructions and questioned why he had been given the death penalty.

“I am a police officer, I followed orders. Why have I been given the death penalty? I have been wronged. I do not accept this verdict," he was heard shouting, when police were taking him from the court premises after the verdict was delivered on Thursday.

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced Amir Hossain and former constable Sujon Chandra Roy to death in the crimes against humanity case over the killing of Abu Sayed in Rangpur.

At the time, Amir also chanted “Joy Bangla” and claimed he had acted on instructions, questioning why he alone was being punished.

The verdict was delivered at noon by a three-member bench of the tribunal, led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury.

Of the 30 accused in the case, three were sentenced to life imprisonment, while the remaining 25 received different terms of imprisonment.
