Nazrul Islam Mazumder, chairman of Nassa Group, has been shown arrested in an attempted murder case filed with Bhatara Police Station in the capital.
The court of Mohammad Ehsanul Islam granted a police application to show him arrested on Sunday. The development was confirmed by the accused’s lawyer Saidur Islam.
The lawyer said more than 20 cases have already been filed against Nazrul Islam Mazumder.
Sub-Inspector Md Hafizur Rahman, the investigation officer of the case, submitted the application on March 11.
According to the application, evidence has been found of Nazrul Islam Mazumder’s involvement in stabbing and shooting with the intent to kill during the July movement. It also alleges that he provided financial and other assistance to other accused individuals.
According to the case statement, after comments by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina regarding the anti-discrimination movement following her removal from power on July 16, 2024, students of the University of Dhaka brought out a procession.
The complaint alleges that on July 18, the student procession was suppressed on Hasina’s orders and that the named and unnamed accused opened fire on the plaintiff, Rohan, and his friends. They were seriously injured in the incident.
Earlier, on the night of October 1, 2024, members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Nazrul Islam Mazumder from the Gulshan area of the capital. He is currently in jail.
