A madrasa headmaster has been arrested in Savar’s Bhabanipur area on charges of sexually harassing a student of class seven on Saturday.
The accused Md Kamruzzaman,36, was detained from the area on Saturday afternoon by Savar Model Police Station.
The alleged incident occurred on Friday afternoon at a madrasa in the Kamalapur area of Savar.
According to police, quoting the victim’s family, the student had been residing in the madrasa dormitory. The headmaster had allegedly been making inappropriate remarks to her on multiple occasions and subjecting her to harassment.
On Friday at around 4:00pm, he allegedly called the student into a classroom and behaved inappropriately. The matter later came to light, prompting the girl’s father to file a case with Savar Model Police Station.
Imran Hossain, in-charge of the Bhabanipur Police Camp under Savar Model Police Station, said the complaint was filed in the morning and the accused was arrested in a raid conducted in the Bhabanipur area around noon.
Police said the case is under investigation and further legal action will be taken based on the findings.
