Although the government has not made any formal statement, it has indicated that the trials at the International Crimes Tribunal will continue, the Chief Prosecutor has said.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam stated that the proceedings of the International Crimes Tribunal will continue at their current pace even after the formation of a BNP-led government following the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
He made the remarks on Thursday while responding to questions from journalists at the tribunal premises.
The Chief Prosecutor said that although no official message had been issued by the government, they had been informed that the law would take its own course. He noted in particular that the Law Minister had stated that the activities of the International Crimes Tribunal would continue as usual. “Therefore, we expect that justice will proceed in the proper manner. Even though the government has not provided us with any specific directive, it has indicated that the trials will remain ongoing,” he said.
Tajul Islam added, “As long as we remain in office, we will ensure that all activities continue in the normal course. This is the demand of justice. Whether we remain here or not is not the main issue. The trials must continue. We believe the government has given a positive signal in this regard.”
