The High Court has dropped from its cause list a writ petition filed by Faruque Ahmed challenging the legality of appointing former national cricket team captain Aminul Islam as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

A High Court bench comprising Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque and Justice Aynun Nahar Siddiqua made the decision on Monday after a hearing.

Earlier, on Sunday, former BCB president Faruque filed the writ petition, which was listed as item 28 on Monday’s cause list.

The National Sports Council (NSC) cancelled Faruque’s nomination to the BCB on Thursday.

On Friday, the NSC appointed former national team captain Aminul as a BCB director.

Faruque filed the writ petition challenging the legality of both decisions.

Senior lawyer Md Ruhul Quddus, along with lawyers Kayser Kamal and AKM Azad Hossain, represented Faruque in court.

Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman represented the NSC, while Mahin M Rahman appeared for the BCB.

According to the writ petition, a rule was sought as to why the decisions made on Thursday and Friday should not be declared beyond legal authority.

It also requested a stay on the implementation of these decisions while the matter remained under judicial review.

The sports secretary, the BCB, and three others were made respondents in the writ.

Soon after the fall of the Awami League government last year, the NSC appointed Faruque and Nazmul Abedeen as BCB directors in place of Jalal Yunus and Ahmed Sazzadul Alam.

Later, Faruque was elected president in a board meeting through a vote of the directors.
