The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court, presided over by Judge Zakir Hossain Galib, has imposed a travel ban and ordered the blocking of the National Identity Card (NID) of Gazi Sahlahuddin Tanvir, former joint member secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), amid an ongoing investigation into allegations of corruption and irregularities.
The order was issued on Tuesday in response to a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The application for the ban was submitted by ACC Assistant Director S M Rashedul Hasan.
ACC spokesperson Akhtarul Islam confirmed it.
According to the petition, Tanvir is under investigation for alleged abuse of power, influence-peddling, extortion, manipulation of tenders and the accumulation of hundreds of crores of taka in illicit wealth through both direct and proxy ownership.
Based on reliable information obtained during the investigation, there are concerns that the accused may attempt to flee the country, the ACC said.
Therefore, a travel restriction and NID block were deemed essential to ensure a fair and uninterrupted investigation process.
Notably, on April 21, Tanvir was suspended from the National Citizen Party and was served with a show-cause notice.
