Although it was previewed on December 30, it has not yet received permission for public screening

Update : 19 Mar 2025, 07:39 PM

The High Court has ordered the screening of the film 'The Remand', based on the July uprising within three days.

The court also issued a rule asking why the government should not be directed to issue a certification for the film’s screening.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting's secretary, Vice Chairman, and Deputy Director of the Bangladesh Film Certification Board have been asked to respond to this rule.

The High Court bench, led by Justice Mohammad Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja, made this order on Wednesday, following a hearing on a writ petition seeking direction for certification.

The petitioner's lawyer, Md Giyas Uddin Chowdhury, was accompanied by Advocate Sirajul Islam Bhuiyan Siraji. Advocates Nazrul Islam, Md Sheikh Farid, KM Jabir, and Khaleda Khanom were also present in the court.

Earlier, a writ petition was filed seeking an order for the release of the film within three days, along with a certification from the board. The petition was filed by the producer of the film, Syed Belayet Hossain Belal.

Directed by Ashrafur Rahman, the film features actors Zakia Bari Momo, Parvez Abir Chowdhury, Salha Khanam Nadia, and Lutfor Rahman George.

After its completion, the film was submitted to the Bangladesh Film Certification Board.

Although it was previewed on December 30, it has not yet received permission for public screening. Despite sending two legal notices to the relevant authorities with no response, the producer approached the High Court to seek the three-day screening order.
