A court ordered authorities on Sunday to freeze 42 BO (beneficiary owner) accounts of former National Bank chairman and Sikder Group founder late Zainul Haque Sikder and his family members.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a petition of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Deputy Director (Public Relations) Aktarul Islam said the commission has already formed a four-member committee to probe into allegations of embezzling clients' money, loan scam and money laundering.
"The probe committee, following the decision taken at the 506th meeting of the bank, published a list of shares owned by the National Bank Limited and NBL Securities Limited. The committee learned that the accused are trying to sell or transfer the shares. So the BO accounts should be frozen to deter them from handing over the shares," the ACC plea said.
