A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former state minister for primary and mass education Md Zakir Hossain and Arifa Jasmine, wife of former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, in connection with corruption investigations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Ghalib issued the order on Tuesday in response to two separate applications filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Minhaj Bin Islam, assistant director of the ACC, submitted the petitions seeking restrictions on the duo’s foreign travel.
According to the petition against Zakir Hossain, a case was filed against him on January 21 over allegations of amassing illegal wealth through corruption and irregularities. The ACC argued that barring him from leaving the country is necessary to ensure a fair investigation.
Meanwhile, the ACC's petition against Arifa Jasmine states that a case was filed against her on December 12 as part of an investigation into the alleged accumulation of illicit wealth by former ministers and MPs of the previous government. The commission requested a travel ban to facilitate a transparent probe.
