A court on Monday placed former state minister for disaster management and relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman on a six-day remand in connection with a case filed over the killing of hawker Sagor in Mirpur during the student-led July uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam issued the order after police produced Enamur before the court, requesting a 10-day remand for interrogation.
The Detective Branch (DB) of the police arrested Enamur in the early hours of Monday in the Vatara area of the city.
According to the case documents, Sagor had participated in an anti-discrimination student rally at the Mirpur-10 intersection on July 19.
Around 4pm, the rally was attacked by police and Awami League cadres, during which Sagor was shot and died on the spot.
On November 27, Sagor’s sister, Beuty Akter, filed a case against 242 individuals, including the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
