A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of tax records belonging to former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed’s wife Zeeshan Mirza and younger daughter Tahseen Raisa Binte Benazir.
In response to two separate petitions by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Wednesday.
Earlier, ACC Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir presented the arguments.
Assistant Director Aminul Islam of the ACC’s prosecution division provided this information.
On Wednesday, ACC Deputy Director Muhammad Zainal Abedin, the investigating officer in both cases, filed petitions seeking the seizure of the tax records.
The petition concerning Zeeshan Mirza stated that she concealed the acquisition of assets worth Tk160,171,336 and amassed movable and immovable properties worth Tk316,955,149 beyond her known sources of income.
It also alleged that Benazir Ahmed, while serving in key positions within the police, misused his authority to assist her in committing these punishable offences. The seizure and review of related tax records were deemed necessary to ensure proper investigation.
In the petition concerning Tahseen Raisa, it was alleged that she amassed properties worth Tk55,955,085 beyond her known sources of income.
The petition also claimed that Benazir Ahmed, during his tenure in significant roles within the police and RAB, directly facilitated her in these unlawful activities.
The investigating officer sought permission to seize tax returns and related documents from the tax office to aid the investigation.
