A total of 120 leaders and activists of the BNP, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, have been exempted from charges in two cases filed at the capital's Shahbagh and Ramna police stations.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah passed the orders recently, accepting final reports filed by the police in the two cases.
Confirming the report, Sub-Inspector Jinnat Ali of the general registration wing of the court said 37 people, including Mirza Fakhrul, were sued in the case filed at Shahbagh police station, while 83 people were implicated in the Ramna Model police station case.
SI Md Motiur Rahman filed the case at Shahbagh police station on November 26, 2019, for obstructing police in conducting their duties and attempting to murder law enforcement officials.
Police after probing the case, filed the final report on October 28.
The other prominent accused, who were exempted from the charges in the case are Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Mirza Abbas, Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee and Barrister Kayser Kamal.
Police filed the other case on October 28, 2023, for launching an attack on the chief justice's residence.
The Detective Branch (DB) of police on October 28 this year filed the final report in this case.
The prominent accused, who were exempted from the charges in the case are Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Barkat Ullah Bulu and Abdul Awal Mintoo.
