The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has requested an additional three months to submit a follow-up investigation report on the death of Fardin Noor Parash, a student at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet).
The case, previously scheduled for submission of the report on Tuesday, was adjourned after CID Assistant Deputy Commissioner Sharafat Ullah sought the extension in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra.
Sharafat said: "The Detective Branch (DB) report suggests Fardin committed suicide. We have reviewed their findings, including call records, case dockets, and CCTV footage, and consulted with the initial investigating officers."
Sharafat emphasized that the CID team is making comprehensive efforts to uncover the full details surrounding Fardin's death but noted that "no significant progress has been achieved yet."
Following the request, the court approved the extension and scheduled the submission for February 12, 2025.
Nuruddin Rana, Fardin’s father and the plaintiff in the case, confirmed the request for additional time.
On April 16 last year, a Dhaka court CID to further probe into the case.
Fardin was a third-year student at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology's civil engineering department and a resident of Qutubpur area in Narayanganj's Fatullah.
Police recovered Fardin's body from the Shitalakhkhya River, behind a cotton mill at Siddhirganj, on November 7, 2022, three days after he went missing.
Sheikh Farhad, a physician at Narayanganj General Hospital where the autopsy was done, said there were several injury marks on Fardin's head and body.
Fardin's father filed a case in connection with his son's killing with Rampura police station on the same day and the case was later transferred to Detective Branch (DB) Police.
