A Dhaka court has granted a two-day remand for Muhammad Faruk Khan, Awami League Presidium member and former minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, in connection with the death of BNP activist Mokbul, who was shot during a political clash.

On Tuesday, the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court issued this order. Earlier, the investigating officer, SI Nazmul Hasan of Paltan Police Station, requested a 10-day remand.

The defense lawyer applied for bail, asking for the remand to be canceled, while the prosecution supported the remand request. After hearing both sides, the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka, Md Sanaullah, approved a two-day remand for the accused.

Faruk Khan was arrested from his Dhaka residence on Monday night.

On December 7, 2022, as BNP leaders and activists from across the country gathered in Nayapaltan for their one-point demand movement, the accused allegedly decided to disrupt the BNP rally.

Around 500-600 unidentified individuals created an atmosphere of terror in front of the BNP central office. They reportedly entered the office, vandalized property, and attacked BNP members with batons and gunfire.

During this incident, a BNP activist named Mokbul was injured and later died in the hospital while receiving treatment. A murder case was filed in this regard at Paltan Police Station on September 30.
