A Dhaka court on Monday set October 31 as the new date for the hearing of 11 cases against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, including eight related to Darussalam police station in the capital.
The cases were originally scheduled for hearing before Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Ash Shams Jaglul Hossain.
However, most of the proceedings have been stayed by the High Court in favour of Khaleda Zia, prompting her lawyers to request a postponement.
The court granted the request and set the new hearing date. Khaleda Zia’s lawyer, Abdul Hannan Bhuiyan, confirmed the development.
The cases include eight involving sabotage allegations at Darussalam police station, two cases from Jatrabari police station — one of which is a murder case — and a sedition case.
The sedition case was filed on January 25, 2016, by former Supreme Court Lawyers Association secretary Momtaz Uddin Ahmad Mehdi, who accused Khaleda Zia of making treasonous remarks.
Additionally, on January 24, 2015, two cases were filed at Jatrabari police station for the murder of Noor Alam, a passenger who died after a bus was set on fire in the Katherpul area. The same year, eight cases were lodged at Darussalam police station on allegations of sabotage.
