A Dhaka court has ordered former minister Tipu Munshi to be sent to jail and Abdus Sobhan Golap, the secretary for publicity and publication of the Awami League, on a three-day remand in two separate murder cases.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mehedi Hasan issued this order after a hearing on Monday.

Following the end of his remand, Tipu Munshi was presented before the court. Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Md Rezaul Alam requested that Munshi be detained until the investigation is complete.

Munshi’s lawyer argued for bail, which was later rejected by the court.

Tipu Munshi was arrested during a raid in the Gulshan area of the capital on the night of August 28. The next day, August 29, the court granted a four-day remand for him.

After the end of a seven-day remand, investigating officer Mintu Chandra Bonik of Adabor police station applied for another seven days of remand for Abdus Sobhan Golap when he was presented before the court on Monday.

The state argued in favour of the remand, while Golap's lawyer argued for bail. After hearing both sides, the court ordered a further three-day remand for him.
