A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to film actor Pori Moni in a case filed by Uttara Club Ltd's former president Nasir U Mahmud in 2022, bringing allegations against her of assault, vandalism, attempted murder and issuing threats.
The court also granted bail to her costume designer Junayed Karim Jimmy alias Jimmy.
Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate M Saiful Islam passed the order after Pori Moni, and Jimmy appeared before it and sought bail in the case.
On April 18, the court accepted the charges against Pori Moni and Jimmy and issued a summons for them to appear before it on Tuesday. Fatema-tuz-Jannat Bony was discharged from the case as the investigation officer did not find any involvement on her part.
Businessman Nasir Uddin filed the case in court on July 6, 2022.
According to the case statement, Pori Moni and her associates were accused of being intoxicated. Allegedly taking advantage of this, they frequented various prominent clubs, consumed alcohol, and refused to pay for their orders. Pori Moni allegedly threatened harassment by filing false cases with police officials she knew.
Arrest warrant application issued against Pori MoniOn June 9, 2021, around 12am, the accused entered Savar's Boat Club and used the second-floor restroom.
Later, they remained inside the club and consumed alcohol. As the plaintiff and his companion Shah Shahidul Alam were leaving the club at around 1:30am, Pori Moni reportedly called Nasir Uddin and urged him to join them for a while. Allegedly, Pori Moni then attempted to coerce Nasir Uddin into providing a free bottle of Blue Label alcohol. When the plaintiff refused, Pori Moni insulted him.
During a subsequent argument between the plaintiff and the accused, Pori Moni allegedly threw a serving glass and the plaintiff's mobile phone, resulting in injuries to Nasir Uddin's head and chest.
Pori Moni and her associates purportedly threatened to beat and kill Nasir Uddin and engaged in vandalism.
