Mitford murder case: HC grants bail to prime accused

Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal said on Thursday that an application had been filed seeking a stay on the bail order

The High Court has granted six months’ ad-interim bail to Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, the prime accused in the murder case over the killing of scrap trader Lal Chand alias Sohag in front of Mitford (Sir Salimullah Medical College) Hospital in Old Dhaka in July last year.

Court sources confirmed the matter on Thursday. 

Earlier, on September 28, a High Court bench comprising Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Syed Hasan Zubair issued a rule and granted him bail.

On July 9, 2025, a group of people brutally killed Lal Chand in broad daylight on a busy road in front of Mitford Hospital.

The following day, his sister Manjuara Begum filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station, naming 19 people and 15–20 unidentified people as accused.

On July 12, the acting judge of Dhaka’s First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court, Mosaddeq Minhaj, ordered the trial to begin against 21 accused in the case.
