A Comilla court on Thursday rejected the bail plea of Jagannath University teacher Din Islam, who was relieved from the post of assistant proctor by the university, in a case over the death of law department student Fairuz Abontika.
Din Islam's lawyers appealed for bail on March 20.
Comilla District and Sessions Judge Nasrin Jahan passed the order around 12:30pm.
This is the second time Din Islam’s bail was rejected by the court.
Earlier, on March 20, Comilla Senior Judicial Magistrate M Abu Bakar Siddique rejected his bail application.
On March 19, a Comilla court sent Din Islam to jail after the completion of his one-day remand.
On March 18, the court placed Jagannath University’s suspended student Raihan Siddique Amman and teacher Din Islam on a two and one-day remand, respectively, in the case.
Abontika, a student of the 2017-18 academic year, was found dead at her Comilla residence after accusing classmate Amman and teacher Din Islam in a Facebook post at around 10pm on March 15.
In the post, Abontika said Amman Siddique and Din Islam would be responsible for her suicide.
Hours after her death, massive protests broke out and have continued, demanding justice for the student.
