The High Court on Sunday set August 2 to deliver the verdict on the rule over the bail of Bangladesh Sammilito Sanatani Jagaran Jote spokesperson Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, also known as Chandan Kumar Dhar, in two cases.

A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajol and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher set August 2 for delivering the verdict after concluding the hearing on the rule.

Advocate Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya appeared for Chinmoy Das during the hearing.

Earlier, the High Court had issued a rule asking why Chinmoy Das should not be granted bail in the two vandalism cases.

On October 31, 2024, Firoz Khan, general secretary of the BNP's Mohra Ward unit in Chittagong, filed a sedition case with Kotwali Police Station against Chinmoy Krishna Das and 18 others. Chinmoy Das and several co-accused were subsequently arrested in the case.

Separately, clashes erupted on the Chittagong court premises on November 26, 2025, after a court denied Chinmoy Das bail in the sedition case, allegedly following unrest by his supporters.

During the violence, lawyer Saiful Islam was beaten and hacked to death. Nearly two dozen suspects have since been arrested over the killing, while additional cases were later filed against Chinmoy Das.
