A Dhaka court on Sunday deferred the verdict of two teachers of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Nazneen Ferdous and Zinat Akhter, for the third time, in a case filed for provoking Aritry Adhikary, a ninth-grader of the institution, to kill herself.
The court fixed April 9 as the new date for verdict.
Judge Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court-12 fixed the verdict date on Sunday. However, the verdict was not ready today. For this, the court fixed a new date for the verdict.
On February 8, the court scheduled the next verdict for Sunday as the verdict was not ready on that date.
According to the case statement, Aritry Adhikari, a class-IX student of the school, killed herself at their Shantinagar residence in the city on December 3, 2018, after allegedly being rebuked by teachers for using a mobile phone during an examination.
Aritry's father Dilip Adhikary on December 4, 2018, filed the case with the Paltan police station against three teachers of the school.
Police on March 28, 2019, filed the charge sheet against the then principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College Nazneen Ferdous and the morning shift in-charge of the school's Bailey Road branch Zinat Akhtar.
Later, the court framed charges against them on July 16, 2019. In the section in which the charges have been framed against the two defendants, if the charges are proved, the maximum punishment for the defendants is death sentence or imprisonment not exceeding 10 years and fine.
Besides, the class teacher Hasna Hena was acquitted as the allegation was not proven against her.
The court has completed the testimonies of 15 out of 18 witnesses.
