A Dhaka court sentenced Alesha Mart Chairman Manzoor Alam Shikdar and his wife Sadia Chowdhury to six months imprisonment in a cheque forgery case.
Dhaka's Second Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Tasruzzaman pronounced the verdict on Thursday.
The court also imposed a fine of Tk3,46,500.
As the accused were absconding at the time of the verdict, the court issued arrest warrants for them.
The plaintiff's lawyer Nikunj Bihari Acharya confirmed the matter.
On June 8, 2021, Nuruzzaman Ripon ordered a motorcycle from Alesha Mart at a discount. He paid Tk2,50,310 taka for the price through Bkash. Even after 45 days, the company did not deliver his motorcycle.
Later, on December 28, 2021, Alesha Mart gave a cheque of Tk3,46,500 for compensation.
The check was dishonored when it was submitted for encashment at the District Council Hall branch of Sonali Bank, Dhaka on March 20, 2022.
On May 19, victim Nuruzzaman Ripon, filed the case as the plaintiff in Dhaka Special Judge Court-7.
