A Dhaka court has once again deferred the announcement of its verdicts in a case filed against BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas for illegally acquiring assets and concealing information on his wealth.
Judge Manjurul Imam of Dhaka Special Judges Court 6 was scheduled to deliver judgement in the case on Tuesday but postponed it as the verdict was not ready, setting December 28 as the new date.
The judge could not prepare the verdict as his father was hospitalized, Anti-Corruption Commission lawyer Mahmud Hossain said.
The court on November 22 set November 30 to deliver its verdict after hearing the arguments from both sides. It later fixed December 12 as the new date for the pronouncement of the verdict after failing to do so on the first date.
According to the case documents, Mirza Abbas concealed information about Tk7.54 crore and illegally accumulated wealth amounting to over Tk57.26 lakh.
ACC Deputy Director Md Shafiul Alam filed the case at Ramna police station on August 16, 2007.
On May 24, 2008, ACC Deputy Director Md Khairul Huda pressed charges against the BNP leader following an investigation.
The trial began with the framing of charges on June 16, 2008.
During the trial, 24 people testified against Mirza Abbas.
