Comilla Awami League leader Sohel ordered to surrender

The Appellate Division on Wednesday suspended the bail granted by High Court to Titas upazila Awami League Organizing Secretary Shahinul Islam alias Sohel Sikder, accused in the murder case of Jubo League leader Jamal Hossain in Comilla's Daudkandi upazila. 

At the same time, he has been ordered to surrender by September 21.

Besides, the registrar general of the Supreme Court has been directed to investigate the entire incident.

A chamber judge led by Justice M Enayetur Rahim of the Appellate Division passed the order on Wednesday after hearing the petition filed against the order of the High Court. Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi heard for the state in the court.

On the night of April 30, Jamal Hossain, joint convener of Titas upazila Jubo League, was shot to dead in by three burqa-clad men Gouripur market of Daudkandi in Comilla.

The deceased's wife Popi Akhter filed a case against 7-8 unidentified people including nine named at Daudkandi police station on May 2 midnight. 

Titas upazila Awami League Organizing Secretary Shahinul Islam alias Sohel Shikder was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on May 6.

Sohail was released on bail from the High Court on September 3. Later, the state applied to the Appellate Division’s Chambers Court seeking directions for suspension of bail and surrender.
