A former Jubo League leader on Saturday withdrew a defamation case that had been filed against Dhaka University Professor Emeritus Serajul Islam Chowdhury.
Former joint convener of South District Jubo League Nazim Uddin had filed the complaint with the court on Thursday, alleging that Serajul Islam Chowdhury had written an article disrespecting Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said Nazim's lawyer Advocate Mujibur Rahman.
Journalists Rashed Rauf and writer Nesar Ahmed were also accused in the complaint.
The court had fixed Sunday for the hearing on the complaint subject to a resubmission of the petition, as it had contained incorrect information. However, the plaintiff withdrew the complaint and did not resubmit the petition.
There is no bar on the plaintiff correcting the petition and resubmitting it later.
Nazim Uddin could not be reached for comment.
A book titled “Tribute to Chittagong on the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation” was edited by Nesar Ahmed on March 17, 2020. Poet and journalist Rashed Rauf was the advisor of the publication.
The complainant had alleged that an article in the publication titled “Sheikh Mujib's Secret Enemy,” by Serajul Islam Chowdhury, contained defamatory statements about the Father of the Nation.
