Rajshahi man gets seven years in jail for distorting photos of PM Hasina

He was also fined Tk1 lakh for his crimes

A Rajshahi court has convicted an individual and sentenced him to seven years in jail on a charge of distorting photos of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and uploading those on social media.

Judge of Rajshahi Cyber Tribunal Ziaur Rahman found the convict, Aktar Hossain, 45, guilty of the charge and pronounced the verdict in his presence on Monday.

The tribunal also fined Aktar Tk1 lakh, in default to suffer three months more behind the bars.

Public Prosecutor of the tribunal Ismat Ara told media that Aktar had posted the two objectionable photos on his Facebook on September 2, 2015.

Being aggrieved with the matter, Mukhlesur Rahman, a resident of Shingra in Natore, had lodged a case.

The tribunal recorded the statements of five prosecution witnesses and examined relevant evidence.
