A Dhaka court on Monday granted bail to e-commerce company Evaly's chief executive officer (CEO) Mohammad Rassel in five cases filed over cheque fraud.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Munira Sultana gave the order.
Rassel's lawyer Fancy Khan said that in 2022, a person named Rasedduzzaman of Tangail sadar upazila filed five cases over embezzlement of five cheques totaling TK47 lakh.
Rassel was produced in Tangail court from Kashimpur jail in the cases on Monday.
Later, lawyer Fancy Khan filed bail petitions in two cases and his senior lawyer Humayun Kabir in three cases. The court granted bail to Rassel in those five cases.
On September 16, 2021, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Evaly CEO Rassel and his wife Nasrin during a raid at their Mohammadpur residence in the capital in a case filed with Gulshan police station over allegations of embezzling customers' money.
This came following the commerce ministry's decision to request the home ministry to take legal actions against Evaly over violations of laws and deceiving customers on September 14.
