11 cases against Khaleda: Court sets May 15 for appearance

Of the 11 cases, eight were filed at Darus Salam Police Station and two others were filed with Jatrabari Police for her role in vandalism during BNP's hartal in 2015

A Dhaka court on Monday set May 15 for the appearance of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia before it in 11 cases lodged against her.

Judge Md Asaduzzaman of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court, set up inside the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, fixed the fresh date, said Additional Public Prosecutor Tapash Kumar Pal.

The court adjourned the hearing till 15 May following separate petitions submitted by the defense citing different reasons.

Of the 11 cases, eight were filed at Darus Salam Police Station and two others were filed with Jatrabari Police for her role in vandalism during BNP's hartal in 2015. These ten cases were filed by police.

The other case was filed with a Dhaka court on a charge of making seditious comments on freedom fighters and martyrs of the Liberation War on January 25, 2016.

Police submitted charge sheets in these cases at different times in 2017. In all the cases Khaleda was shown to be absconding and an application was made for the issuance of an arrest warrant against her.

Later, Khaleda Zia surrendered to the court and secured bail.
