Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of Rapid Action Battalion's (RAB) legal and media wing on Thursday said the court allowed them more time to identify the real culprits behind the sensational murders of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation and working to identify the real culprits behind the murder. Hence the court allowed us more time,” he told Bangla Tribune.
A Dhaka court on Thursday deferred the submission of probe report into journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi for the 94th time.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rashedul Alam fixed January 4, 2023 as the new deadline.
The RAB official investigating the case failed to submit the report on Thursday and sought more time.
The court last deferred the probe report submission for the 93rd time on October 31.
Maasranga Television news editor Sagar Sarowar and his wife, ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi, were found dead at their rented apartment in Dhaka's West Rajabazar area on February 11, 2012.
Nousher Ali Roman, brother of Runi, filed a case at Sher-e-Bangla police station the following day.
Law enforcement officials have so far arrested eight people in connection with the double murder.
They are Tanvir, Rafiqul Islam, Bakul Mia, Abu Syed, Mintu alias Baggira Mintu alias Masum Mintu, Quamrul Hasan alias Arun, security guard Enam Ahmed alias Humayun Kabir and Palash Rudra Pal.
